Building Regulations and Approvals

In this lecture, we learnt about the building regulations and approvals.
Some of the building codes and relevant laws are listed here

- The sustainable planning act 2009
- BCA: technical requirements for structural sufficiency & safety, health and amenity. called up by state building law, calls up Aus and NZ standards.
- Workplace Health and Safety Act
- Environmental Protection Act
- Building Services Authority Act
- Local Government Act
- Brisbane City Plan 2012: Under the Sustainable Planning Act - Development
- Building work: building, repairing, altering, underpinning, moving, demolishing a building or structure.
- Approval: an application submitted by the applicant to the licences building certifier includes forms, documents, reports and certificates.

An example Paul gave in class was when you are designing for a new concept you need to look into all relevant building codes etc - for example; a designing might want to put an indoor garden into the centre but Ipswich City Council may not allow this. It is up to us to research this information now in 3rd year.

In class we discussed what class the 'endeavour foundation' would fall under; we all said that it would be classified as a 9B.
